Learn about chicken keeping on one of our local poultry courses

The Mount Vets Poultry & Gamebird department run and assist with numerous poultry and chicken keeping courses throughout the year, for farmers, students, veterinary professionals, schools and more. Please see the links below.

The course is designed for school and college students, generally GCSE level and above, who would like to find out more about a career in veterinary medicine.

Students have the chance to participate in numerous practical activities, including examination of dogs, horses, cows, sheep and chickens, poultry dissections and pig and sheep farm visits. They also have a number of lectures with Stuart Young and Tony Andrews, with advice about getting into vet school, finances, alternative options and much more.

Courses run 3-4 times per year, over 3 days, and generally coincide with half terms and holidays.

Mount Vets Poultry & Gamebird department regularly runs poultry courses in association with Duchy College and Colliton Barton.

Courses are available for both those new to the industry, and the more experienced. All courses cover areas including diagnostics, disease, anatomy and best welfare practice.

Please see the Duchy College Rural Business School website for further information about dates of upcoming courses, and how to book your place on them.
