Sheep Farmer Training Course

This course is ideal for anyone considering a career working with sheep or already involved in sheep farming. It is also suitable for leisure learners who want to know more about or keep sheep.

You will gain a very good basic knowledge of sheep husbandry combined with an understanding of the biology of the sheep, enabling you to manage your flock more effectively and productively.

The course covers:

  • Preparation for breeding
    Rams and ewes. Practical on RAM M.O.T and BCS ewes

  • Lambing
    Care of ewes and lambs before and immediately after lambing. Practical on lambing techniques, stomach tubing, glucose injections and entropion correction.

  • Growing lambs
    Practical on worm egg counts.

Our vets use a combination of team discussion, milk sampling, statistical analysis and dynamic parlour testing to address mastitis challenges. Lameness

Lameness in cattle and small ruminants is a huge welfare and production concern. Mount Vets work collaboratively with farmers and foot-trimmers to tackle this challenge. Regular courses and continued support is available to farmers looking to take on their own foot trimming, or just sharpen their skills.
