Meet our poultry vet team

Stuart Young BSc (Hons) BVetMed MRCVS

Stuart qualified from the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in 1994. Prior to this he completed a degree at Reading University in Physiology, Biochemistry and Nutrition of farm animals.

Following his graduation he joined a large practice in Wiltshire where had a keen interest in cattle work and particularly nutrition.

In 1997 he joined a large animal practice in Devon and in 2001 set up SYVS. Stuart now works mostly in cattle and poultry health, and veterinary education. He lectures at the RVC in large animal and poultry medicine for the final year. He has a large involvement in the British Cattle Veterinary Association where he was elected to the committee from 2006-2009 as chair of the education review group.

In October 2009 Stuart had a bilateral hip replacement, which has changed his career path. Stuart spends a great deal of time developing the poultry practice, and takes on a more consultative role in cattle herd health management, especially nutrition.

Stuart is married to Gail, who is the practice manager, and keeps him in check! He has two wonderful boys, Callum and William, who are unlikely to follow in his father’s footsteps! Stuart is a keen rugby follower, and coaches the juniors at Cullompton Rugby Club, where he used to play (when his hips worked)

Hannah Griffiths BVetMedSci (Hons) BVM BVS MRVCS

Hannah graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2011. She had seen practice at SYVS over the years and had a keen interest in poultry throughout her University career which is unusual in itself. She is now assistant to Stuart in the poultry department as well as helping with the large animal department when she has spare time.

Hannah originates from Barry Island in South Wales of “Gavin and Stacey” fame. She has many pets including a giant rabbit that is nearly as big as a collie! She is an extremely talented musician and was part of the Welsh Youth Orchestra for many years. No doubt at rugby 6 nations she will be shouting for Wales and I hope England can quieten her celebrations!
